The Boat
The Laser 2000 combines a classic GRP hull and deck moulding with a modern asymmetric rig including a furling jib and reefing mainsail.
The 2000 has established an enviable record as a resilient and versatile design; docile and forgiving for novices yet an exhilarating sail for more advanced sailors.
Since its introduction in 1998 more than 2,200 boats have been built. Details of sail numbers and boat ages can be found here
If you’re looking for a used boat check out our Classifieds page.
The Association
2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the Laser 2000 Class Association, a significant milestone which we will be celebrating throughout the year.
The Laser 2000 is equally at home on both inland and coastal waters and can be seen in action at many sailing clubs throughout the UK and overseas.
The Class Association endeavours to promote and further the interests of all Laser 2000 owners, whatever their interests. In particular, we recognise that not everybody wants to race.
Association membership continues to increase year on year and at the end of the 2008-09 season we had over 400 members.
Millennium Mutterings, the Class Association newsletter is currently published three times per year and provides news, event reports and tips for setting up and sailing.

The 2009 Sailing Programme
The 10th Anniversary National Championships will be held at Hayling Island from 26th - 31st July 2009. Weather permitting, there will be ‘sail past’ on the Sunday, continuing down the length of Chichester Harbour to Dell Quay SC and Chichester YC for a birthday tea before returning to Hayling. Racing will take place Monday to Friday. Non-competitors are welcome to join in the sail past on Sunday.
The Inland Championships will take place on 19th - 20th September at Ullswater Yacht Club. This event also combines the Scottish Championships, Caledonian Ring and Millennium Series, creating the perfect opportunity for our ‘Northern’ and ‘Southern’ fleets to combine for this unique 10th Anniversary event.
Further details of these events, plus the Millennium Series, the Caledonian Ring and additional Open meetings and L2kPlay events, along with latest news, can be found in the forum.
The Laser 2000 Website was designed as an interactive facility, allowing regular updates by committee members whilst also providing a focal point for sharing information between members and guests.
Although essential information regarding the Class Association can be found using the drop-down menus above, much of the ongoing news, views and discussions can be found on the Forum.
Please note that the Forum contains both Public and Member’s areas and that detailed guidance on logging on to both of these areas can be found in the Public area under General Chat & Queries - Registration & Logging In. Alternatively follow this link.
